Today is National HIV Testing Day. Over 100,000 New Yorkers are living with HIV and AIDS, and over 20,000 don’t know it. With new quick testing products available, it’s time to get tested.

On a national day of HIV awareness and testing, New Yorkers suffer greatly from HIV infection. More than 100,000 New Yorkers are suffering from HIV/AIDS infection, with as many as 20,000 infected and undiagnosed. Many New Yorkers are needlessly missing treatment and may be spreading the disease unknowingly.

Health Department Commissioner Thomas Frieden said, "New York City remains at the epicenter of the country's epidemic. If you have HIV, it's important to know. By knowing your HIV status, you can protect yourself and your partners. Call your doctor, or call 311 to find out how to get a free, confidential HIV test. Avoiding risky sexual behavior, using condoms, and discussing your HIV status with your partners are important to protect yourself and others and to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. Knowing your HIV status can save your life."

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have money to pay for the test. The City provides free HIV testing at the following STD clinics:
