Editorial Review

Consumers are increasingly reaching for additive-free all-natural foods, beverages, and now body care products. Many spas are meeting the demand for natural experiences by pulling spa products with artificial chemicals from their shelves and replacing them with natural plant- and mineral-based products.

Le Cachet Spa, a five-year-old unpretentious day spa, has modeled their treatments on the holistic philosophy, catering not only to how your skin appears, but why your skin may be suffering. They use all organic products, which are fruit- and vegetable-derived. Their line of makeup is made from minerals and contains no oils, so pores aren’t clogged and suffocated.

Drudging through midtown car and human traffic, I stepped out of the chaos into Le Cachet Spa to redeem a gift certificate and my flaky skin. Hard wood floors and plump sofas greeted me, as did the gentleman behind the counter. I was lead down a long corridor to a small, dimly-lit changing room that opened up into le Cachet’s spacious sauna. I replaced my clothes with a white robe and headed to an adjacent room for a full-hour full-body massage. The quaint massage room, just large enough for the massage table and a sink, was even more dimly lit, by a single candle in fact, and smelled of honey and lavender.

After several minutes of a gentle Swedish massage, I requested a bit more pressure and was immediately content. The massage oil had a woody and mildly floral fragrance. The masseuse was attentive, and soft piano music lulled in the background.

An hour’s over so soon? Ah well, on to the next treatment– the customized facial. Before applying lotions and scrubs, le Cachet provides a free consultation on your skin type. After determining that I had dry skin, especially on my cheeks, the specialist gently exfoliated, applied a series of moisturizers, and set a warm mist spraying ever so slightly across my face, at which point I fell into a coma-like sleep.

The facial was finished off with a Vitamin A & E mask and a prognosis of my skin type and how to treat it. According to le Cachet, with the right products and care, even I would be able to moisturize away the red dry patches on my cheeks. In all honesty, my skin looked firmer, less like I just woke up, and even shiny.

As part of their holistic approach to treating the whole body in order to improve skin health, le Cachet frequently places their patrons in a large cocoon-like contraption that they claim detoxifies the skin without putting anything into your body. In one hour, you undergo 4 different treatments: ionized vapor, pure oxygen, a pure seaweed wrap, and an aqua massage.

The pedicure that followed was delightful, what with the oversized chair kneading my lower back and trashy magazine in hand. I laud the technician for even getting paint on my barely-there, former cross-country-running toenails, and she stayed staid in the lines, too.

The finishing touch was threading by Lana, who has been doing it for 30 years. She reminded me that even though threading may be a hot new technique in the US, it’s actually an ancient one. With minimal wincing, my eyebrows have never looked sexier.

Overall, the atmosphere at le Cachet Spa is calming, clean, and down-to-earth, and the service professional, attentive, and caring. Their “pampering therapeutically” approach is refreshing in the world of quick-fix treatments you may find elsewhere.

Surprised Couples Massage Posted by Lary Skolnik on 8/16/09
My girlfriend asked me to go with her to negotiate a business deal…when we got to the place it was Le Cachet Day Spa, and the business deal was a wonderful relaxing couples massage with aroma candles. The atmosphere, romantic music, and the massage was superb. After the massage,we had a glass of fine wine and chocolate. The staff of Le Cachet was professional, pleasant and courteous; I am looking forward to have an other surprise couple’s massage at Le Cachet Day Spa. Highly recommended
