Editorial Review
As are so many of Manhattan's gems, Millefleurs Spa Mondial lay nestled off street level and just out of the hustle and bustle of Fifth Avenue. What you find behind their unassuming front door might surprise you, so prepare yourself to step into their realm and slip away into the unique and exciting world that awaits.
The peacefully lit environment exudes the exotic feel of Moroccan décor and ageless wisdom of both Western and Eastern philosophies. Rest your weary feet on a silky Ottoman while you wait for Gina Michael, the quirky and endearing owner and masseuse. Formerly of Millefleurs Tribeca fame (boasting a clientèle including Liv Tyler, Helen Hunt, Lawrence Fishburn, and the late JFK, Jr.), Gina counted on her 25 year background in massage and 18 years in acupuncture to run a premier spa in Lower Manhattan. While the tragic events of 9/11 have prompted a change in venue, the new multilevel and partially outdoor spa adds couples massages under Moroccan gazebos to the long list of delights.
Millefleurs Spa Mondial seamlessly blends the beauty rituals of ancient civilizations with Western techniques to bring clients to a level of transcendence beyond the raging metropolis outside. Unifying French and Middle Eastern customs, Gina has fine-tuned a body wrap formula with no less than 111 detoxifying and healing herbs. Typical spas will offer traditional wraps with about 7. Not only will they go above and beyond in technique and formula, Millefleurs takes great pride in their flexible scheduling with appointments open from 7am to 1am, making even your most hectic schedule open to accommodating much needed self-pampering.
Of course, the spa offers a full list of the usual services (and some unique to this location), but it's the special events that make Millefleurs truly unique. Two Thursday evenings each month (call for schedule), Millefleurs hosts a Moroccan-themed singles mixer complete with dinner and Belly Dancing lessons by one of New York's top instructors, Jihan. It's an exotic, fun, and safe environment to meet interesting Manhattanites. And if you're looking to leave the Big Apple behind, inquire about Millefleurs' Thousand Flowers Guesthouse. This one acre, South Hampton bed and breakfast, comes complete with 50 foot pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna capable of accommodating even corporate parties of up to five hundred people!
Whether you're eager to show off the Belly Dancing moves you've been brushing up on, or just trying to slip away into serenity, Millefleurs gives you the option. Certainly one of the most interesting and diverse spas we've had the fortune of visiting. |
