Editorial Review

At first glance, the name Wrap-N-Run elicits conflicting emotions. Wraps are healthy, right? But can they still be healthy on the run?

In their defense, there are some limited healthy and vegetarian options, and these options are certainly available on the run (if only because limited seating forces you to take your food elsewhere at peak hours). They offer nonfat smoothies and a make your own salad bar--which, in theory, can be as healthy as you decide. But with low-fat ranch as the only healthy alternative for dressings, you're fairly limited in adding extra flavor without the extra calories.

This brings us to the wraps. I ordered a Portabello wrap ($5.45), stuffed with grilled portabello mushrooms, red peppers, provolone, and mixed greens. It would appear healthy at first glance, but appearances can be deceiving. After one sweet and rich bite, I became suspicious of the health content. Upon closer inspection, I noticed it was slathered in a basil mayonnaise that had combined with a Balsamic like mixture of oil in which the mushrooms were grilled. While I can't complain about the taste, it certainly wasn't the healthy alternative I was looking for. My partner opted for higher protein with a Chicken Teriyaki Wrap ($5.65), which he a agreed was equally tasty and decadent with its high carb count and sweet teriyaki sauce. Of course, these wraps could have been modified for the health conscious--dropping the sauces, maybe subbing mixed greens for rice--but then again, a healthy sandwich lives at McDonald's if you're willing to do the same.

While Wrap-N-Run does present some healthy alternatives, they're more difficult to come by than one might surmise. And trust me, there was nothing healthy about the state of our digestive tracks for the 24 hours following our visit. So if you put taste and speed, at a premium, Wrap-N-Go is an excellent choice. But if your body is a temple, worship your lunch elsewhere.
