Family owned and operated for almost 100 years, the Porto Rico Import Co. has separated themselves from the competition with consistently good blends, and consistent regard for the environment. They offer a wide variety of 100% organic, sustainable blends, grown without pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizer. They support shade-grown, bird-friendly coffee farms, that do not strip and clear the indigenous forests, but grow their beans beneath the canopies, where birds and other animals enjoy their natural habitats. The Porto Rico Import Co. also carries blends produced with the Swiss Water decaffeinating process—one of the only completely chemical free and organically certified decaffeinating processes in the world. As my partner downs his eighth cup today, I can't help but think we'd never get anything done without their Organic Costa Rican blend. Now if we could only keep him from eating the grinds, we might get to reinstitute nap-time
